Self-image

How do dreams relate to self-image?

Winning at rugby…

winning at rugbyDream:  I dreamt I was playing rugby and was running through the opposition scoring a lot of points, even kicking for goals… the match wasn’t finished and the opposition stopped the game.

DreamsMaster: What I see in your dream is this metaphor: you’re playing at the top of your game. You’re in command, overcoming all obstacles.

In the dream, did you feel that the opposition stopped the game because they surrendered? Or did it feel as if that was their way of gaining control over the situation?

In your waking world today, do you feel that you’re confidently achieving your goals? Do you also have the sense that there are others competing with you, trying to stop you in your tracks?

I suggest the dream’s message for you is to embrace the feeling of confidence in your endeavors, and don’t let the opposition or competition deter you from reaching your goals.

Rat under the bed…

RatDream:  I was in this old dirty house and a rat ran under the bed.

DreamsMaster: This dream is quite possibly a warning that your health and well-being may be at risk.

There are two primary symbols: a house and a rat.

Symbolically, a house in a dream often represents one’s self. In your dream, this house is “old” and “dirty”.

A rat often represents disease. Depending on your personal association to a rat, it may also represent someone not to be trusted.

Perhaps you’re not practicing good self-care by over-indulging in food, drugs or alcohol. If so, the dream may be warning you to use better judgment before your world starts crumbling around and within you.

If you feel you are indeed practicing good self-care, then the dream could be warning you of some other possible threat to your general well-being. It could be in the form of a disease lurking within your system, and if you’ve been experiencing physical symptoms, I encourage you to consult a doctor.  The threat could also be coming from a person in your life who is unhealthy for you to be around.

Consider these options I’ve presented and contemplate other possibilities that come to mind as you read this. Only the dreamer can determine the true meaning of a dream, but my gut tells me this is a dream requiring some action on your part in order to steer clear of danger.

Naked in public…

dreams as reflections, dream symbol, naked in public, exposedDream:  I often have a dream in which I am standing or walking naked in a public place and suddenly I realize that I am nude and try to run from there or try to find clothes.

DreamsMaster:  Being nude or naked in a dream usually represents feeling exposed or vulnerable. The fact that you try to run or find clothes implies that you are afraid of being seen for who you are and feel the need to cover up. Are you carrying a secret that you fear will somehow discredit you if it’s revealed? Or, if there’s no actual secret, do you privately feel afraid or ashamed to be seen for who you really are?

Think about these questions, and how you might go about building your inner confidence so as to release any fear of being exposed or vulnerable. Once you’ve established this new level of confidence, then the next time you have a dream of being naked, you may be surprised to find that you don’t need to cover up after all.

In dreams we see ourselves naked and acting out our real characters, even more clearly than we see others awake.

– Henry David Thoreau

Boyfriend killed…

boyfriend killedDream:  In my dream my boyfriend was shot and killed. It’s the third time dreaming it. It was on the street but I don’t know where we are, and I see cop cars everywhere. I see him dead.

DreamsMaster: Your dreaming mind is definitely trying to get your attention, based on the fact that you’ve had the dream three times and it’s making a strong emotional impact.

The first thing you want to look at is the literal context. Do you sense your boyfriend is involved in some type of dangerous activity that could result in violent action toward him? If so, the dream may be a warning, and I strongly encourage you to talk to him about it to see if he can change course.

If the literal angle doesn’t fit, then look for symbolism. For example, seeing him dead could mean that your image of him has died, that he’s no longer the person you initially thought he was. The cops or police in the dream could represent your conscience, the part of you that knows right from wrong.

Think back to what was on your mind the night(s) you had this dream. If you can’t recall, then the next time you have the dream, write it down along with what happened or what was on your mind the day or night before. Soon a trend will become clear, and you’ll know what the message is and what action you need to take.

Fish jumping…

Fish jumpingDream:  I could see the fish jumping out the water, and when I pulled my line up I caught 3 fish

DreamsMaster:  Fish are often a sign of good fortune in dreams. Fish jumping in the water may also be a symbol of fertility or conception, and it’s significant that you caught three.

Water often represents our emotional or spiritual state. In this context, fish jumping could represent ideas percolating beneath consciousness. Catching fish could represent getting hold of these ideas.

For some, the fish is a symbol of Christianity, and three could represent the trinity.

Think about what was on your mind the night you had the dream, and consider these ideas to see if you can uncover the true meaning for yourself. In general, this dream represents good things happening for you. Enjoy!
