Dream Interpretation Tip #4

Find the theme.  The theme is a short statement about what is taking place in the dream. Focus on the action in the dream, and then use general words to replace specific places, objects, and people. Using the dream about Lori again, the theme might be: someone is having difficulty reaching someone else. Once the theme is identified, ask yourself: “Where is this theme being enacted in my life?”

Asking yourself specific questions involving the dream theme is essential. If you are being chased, ask: “What am I running away from?” If you suddenly discover you’re nude, ask: “In what way am I feeling exposed?” If you’re walking in fog, ask: “What am I afraid to see?” Use your creativity to come up with as many questions as possible, and then look to your waking life for the answers.
