Go get the bananas…

Go get the bananasDream: I dreamed my fiancé and I met in the African village and then went to the farm and saw the bananas on the other side and my fiancé said to me “Go get the bananas on the other side of the river and bring them back” and then I refused and told my fiancé to go get the bananas. My fiancé refused and told me to go get the bananas. Then we saw a snake in the water and my fiancé bought me a piece of wood and told me to go and kill the snake. Then I refused and told her to go kill the snake. Then she refused. Then all of a sudden, we are in a tree and my fiancé is singing in the wrong notes to me. Then I saw my granddad and he asked “What are you doing in the tree”, then I woke up.

DreamsMaster: This dream appears to be illustrating conflict between your fiancé and you, specifically around issues of power and control. I see two examples of this in the dream, one in regards to fetching bananas (may symbolize sustenance) and the other in regards to killing a snake (may symbolize protection). Your fiancé expects you to address these basic needs, but you deflect back to her, and she deflects back to you, with no apparent resolution. Is this a pattern between the two of you in your waking life? In other words, do the two of you get stuck when it comes to negotiation and conflict resolution?

All of a sudden you’re in a tree. This could represent trying to rise above or escape from the conflict. To no avail, as the “disharmony” (singing wrong notes) is present even there. Perhaps your granddad represents your inner wisdom, recognizing the futility of your current mode of trying to escape the conflict. If so, consider this: What would your granddad advise in your current situation?

Planes crashing around us…

Planes crashingDream:  I was with my boyfriend in my dream and a plane was nose-diving right above us. It missed us and crashed behind us. After that there were other helicopters and planes crashing around us.

DreamsMaster: What feelings were you experiencing during the dream? Did you fear you and your boyfriend were in danger, or were you just observing?

Planes and helicopters are modes of flying. To fly in a dream often represents a desire to “rise above” conflict; crashing may represent falling back hard into reality. It’s possible you’ve been feeling like certain circumstances around you are spiraling out of control, perhaps threatening your relationship.

Dreaming of something crashing around you could also signify the end of an emotion or fear that was causing stress. Perhaps you and your boyfriend are finally resolving a conflict that’s been escalating between you.

Think about what was on your mind the night you had the dream. Where in your life have you been experiencing or imagining things “crashing down” around you?

Dreaming is the opportunity to hold a citizenship in two worlds, equally real but with different logic and limitations.

I saw a toilet in my dream…

Toilet in my dreamDream:  I saw a toilet in my dream. What does this mean?

DreamsMaster: A toilet in a dream can mean different things to different people, but it most commonly represents a need to release unpleasant but natural feelings. Similarly, dreaming of having to use a toilet but there being none available often represents an obstacle to expressing these emotions. Something to ask yourself is whether the obstacle to releasing these feelings is external (a real or perceived threat from another person or situation) or internal (your own sense of shame or guilt).

Was the toilet clean or filthy? This could represent the type of feelings needing expression. A clean toilet may be an invitation to release emotions perceived as more positive, such as love and joy. A dirty toilet may represent less acceptable feelings such as anger and jealousy. Another aspect to consider is whether or not there was a need to “hold it in” and/or an inability to do so, which would be a metaphor for trying to control or fearing losing control of one’s emotions.

Was the toilet in a private space or out in the open? This could represent a sense of vulnerability about expressing these feelings.

What was on your mind the night before you had this dream? See if you can relate any events or feelings in the waking world with the events or feelings in the dream.

Ah, and let’s not overlook the potential literal meaning… a dream about a toilet is sometimes just our sleeping mind’s way of telling us our body needs to wake up and go use one!

Dreams about flying…

Dreams about flyingDream:   Ever since I was a child, I’ve had dreams about flying. Either running in air or swimming in the air. Sometimes I control myself with my hand while running.

DreamsMaster:  Ah, flying dreams can be so empowering! In general, flying in a dream in the manner you’ve described represents the ability to take control and rise above conflict. If you were to track what was going on in your waking world the day before each flying dream, you may find a trend of anxiety-provoking events coupled with a sense of powerlessness. The dream of flying is your inner self’s way of keeping your mental and emotional states in balance, and giving you a much-needed sense of power and control.

Elevator falls and crashes…

Elevator fallsDream:  I’m on an elevator falling from hundreds of floors, then crashes when it hits the bottom!

DreamsMaster:  This dream could be a warning – you’ve enjoyed a rise to the top, but are about to be humbled as you come crashing down. Just remember: sometimes it takes hitting bottom to rise all the stronger.

I have long trusted dreams as prophetic visions. I do not mean that they foretell the future, only that they illuminate the present, when my eyes are closed, so that I may see clearly.
